WIN OR ELSE: Minister Kofi Adams Cracks the Whip on Black Stars

The time for trials is over. Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has sent a clear message to the Black Stars camp in Vienna: these friendlies are about winning, not just testing players. How will Otto Addo balance this mandate with his four new debutants?

“I’ve told the coaches that these two friendlies, we are going with the mindset of winning, not just going to try players.”

— Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports & Recreation
The “honeymoon phase” for Otto Addo’s second stint as Black Stars head coach has officially ended. Speaking exclusively following the launch of the World Cup raffle, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has issued a bold directive that effectively bans casual experimentation in the upcoming European friendlies.

No Room for Error

With Ghana slated to face Austria (March 27) and Germany (March 30), the Buem MP emphasized that the global prestige of the Black Stars brand cannot afford “training ground” performances. The Minister’s stance is a response to a three-match losing streak that has left fans anxious ahead of the June kickoff in North America.

“Participation in the World Cup is a platform for economic visibility,” Adams noted. “We cannot build that visibility if we are not winning matches. The technical team must prioritize results to build the confidence of the nation.”

The Debutant Dilemma

This directive puts Otto Addo in a tactical bind. The coach recently called up four newcomers—Patrick Pfeiffer, Derrick Luckassen, Marvin Senaya, and Daniel Agyei—specifically to “test their mettle.” Under the Minister’s new mandate, Addo may be forced to rely more heavily on his established core, including Thomas Partey and Jordan Ayew, rather than giving the debutants the minutes they were promised.

“There were a lot of people who gave up on the Black Stars. We restored that trust through strategic wins. We must maintain it.” — Kofi Adams

Full House in Vienna

The warning comes as the camp in Vienna hits full strength. Alexander Djiku and Kojo Oppong Peprah are expected to join the 22 players already on site today. With 21 players having already completed a high-intensity session at the Vienna Football Campus, the pressure is now on the pitch to deliver the “scalps” the Minister is demanding.
